Summer Enrichment Presentation
There are so many opportunities for enrichment for you (many are free) and being a part of something like this not only helps build your college resume, but it actually makes you a more well rounded human. These enrichment experiences, even virtual ones, expose you to new ideas and careers that you may not have known about. They may cause a passion to spark in you about a career field you never thought about.

Seniors
If you have already applied to college then CHECK you COLLEGE PORTALS. This is the time when colleges will be asking you for more information if they need it. The requests usually include a deadline and if you don't meet the deadline, they might remove your application from the applicant pool.
Please read your email!
Many of you are receiving admissions decisions from colleges. It's an exciting (and possibly disappointing) time for you. Just remember that there is a college for you that is your Best Fit. Remember, if they don't admit you, that is a "Redirection". That college wasn't right for you and you are being redirected to a college that is the right fit for you. You are not being "rejected", just "redirected". Also, please login to Naviance and put in the admission decisions as you hear back from each college. This is how we gather data that is used in the Scatter grams so please do your part. See directions for updating college results in Naviance if you don't know how to do this.
Additionally, we need to know what your plans are even if you are not attending college. ALL Seniors must complete a Senior Survey prior to April 20th. There will be a Senior Meeting on that day where you may be able to pickup your cap and gown for graduation,
All seniors are required to complete one of the following applications. 1) FAFSA Application, 2) Ca Dream Act Application 3) Opt Out of Financial Aid FORM. Here are links to some worksheets to help you get started

Here's a peek at what the College Essay Guy is covering:
- How do I know what subjects and courses to select in high school?
- How do I balance course rigor with having a strong GPA? (AKA Is a 'B' in a hard class better than an 'A' in an easier class?)
- What classes are selective colleges generally looking for?
- How should my intended major inform course selection? What if I don't know my major?
- How should I plan my summer and extracurricular time as I juggle what colleges are looking for, my personal interests/passions, and future aspirations?

How do you know when your essay is "done?" I'm assuming you didn't wait until the last minute, in which case you are done when you run out of time. (By the way, essay readers can tell when you did this.) If you are thoughtful about your essays and took time to rewrite them and revise them, here is an article from Ivywise that explains things to check about your essays to decide if you are truly "done".

Pilot City
Are you looking for something meaningful to do this summer? I get many students asking me if I know of any "internships". Usually companies are looking for college students to fill their internship positions. Pilotcity is a program that is designed to help students in middle school through high school build the skills they need to prove their value as an intern to a company. Pilotcity has partnered with many employers who have ideas that they would like solutions for. As a student, you create an account on Pilotcity, explore employers and read about their proposed projects. You select a project and then proceed online through the project development process to propose a solution to one of the employer projects. Your final project then becomes your "interview" for a summer internship with that employer.
Check out the projects at pilotcity.com and see if you are interested in any of them. You need a token to proceed, but the Santa Clara Office of Education has provided CUHSD with tokens. Contact me at [email protected] to get a token for your project. Get started now EARNING a Summer Internship!

CSU (California State University) Applications
Many of you have been asking questions about the CSU Application, specifically how to enter math or language classes you took in middle school. The answer to this and much more can be found in the Freshmen Application Guide. Open this document and hit <Ctrl> F to get a search box. Then type in what you are looking for (ex. Middle School) and you will usually find your answer. This guide has a ton of information regarding what to enter in your application. Just search and read the directions. If you still need help, you can click the "?" for help within the application, then click on "Help Center" and "Live Chat" at the bottom right corner of the help screen. Another option is to call the help center at 857-304-2087

Common Applications
Once you create your Common App account at commonapp.org, and add colleges to it, you can see what is required for each college by clicking on "Application Requirements" from the Dashboard. This will list the deadlines, application fees, essay and supplement requirements, and any letters of recommendation that are required.
Another question I get a lot is in the "Grades" section where they ask about Class size (which is 384 for class of 2022) and "Class rank reporting" which is NONE for Westmont now.
Also, make sure to match your Naviance account with your Common App account so we can send your transcript if needed. To do this you will need to complete your FERPA waiver on the Common app.
